About SafeComp

Since it was established in 1979 by the European Workshop on Industrial Computer Systems, Technical Committee 7 on Reliability, Safety and Security (EWICS TC7), SAFECOMP has contributed to the progress of the state-of-the-art in dependable application of computers in safety-related and safety-critical systems.

SAFECOMP is an annual event covering the state-of-the-art, experience and new trends in the areas of safety, security and reliability of critical computer applications. SAFECOMP provides ample opportunity to exchange insights and experience on emerging methods, approaches and practical solutions. It is a one-stream conference without parallel sessions, allowing easy networking.

Key Theme

Today, we are surrounded by socio-technical, embedded systems which have huge infl uence on our daily life starting from energy distribution, through transportation systems to communication and logistics.
Continuous integration and automation leads to always rising complexity and criticality. Although the importance of system safety is widely recognized, an increasing number of severe accidents shows that new and better methods for designing and assessing safety are needed.
One main reason is inadequate understanding of the system and its safety arguments. The leading theme of the 31st SafeComp conference will be:

VIRTUALLY SAFE – making system safety traceable!

In 2012, we specifi cally address research and experience, which aims at making dependability assessments both more precise and better to understand. Some examples might be model based approaches, simulation and virtual reality, understandable presentation of safety cases and/or methods for ensuring quality of the used safety arguments. A special focus will be given to multi-disciplinary approaches addressing several dependability issues and their interdependencies at the same time.
